The LHASA APSO, an ancient breed originated in the monasteries of Tibet. The Himalayan ranges
protected the fauna and flora of the region but by the late 1800's explorers were bringing
specimens to the West including dogs. The Lhasa Apsos were not sold but given by the monks as
gifts. The breed was known in England in the 1890's but not recognized by the Kennel Club until
1933. In l934 the Canadian Kennel Club recognized the LHASA APSO.
